Welcome

Founded by six alumni in 1996, our association has grown to 156 members. Our main objective is to promote fellowship among former students. In keeping with the Maryknoll spirit of giving and charity, we also participate in and support various charitable events, and we also raise funds for our retired Maryknoll Sisters.

Sister Corinne Rost

Sister Corinne had a fall in June and broke her right hip and shoulder. She is undergoing physical therapy and complete skilled nursing at the Motherhouse. Though she is doing reasonably well on the healing, she has no appetite. She does not want to eat because she has no incentives to get well. She cannot read or watch TV because of bad vision. She had cataract surgery a year ago.

Sister Corinne had her 92nd birthday on July 29. She had visitors and calls all day and a party of wine and cheese in the afternoon. Former students sent her audio books, lots of cards, flowers, and one brought her wonton soup and noodles. It cheered her up tremendously.

Please keep Sister Corinne in your prayers and if you would like to send her a card or give her a call to cheer her up, here is the information:

Initiatives

Charity "Ox" Sale
We are again the sponsor of the Canadian Cancer Society 2009 charity toy ox sale. 48 oxes found new owners.

Annual HK$1,500 Scholarship
This was initiated in 2004 to encourage our secondary school students in their achievement in either English or Chinese writing or speech. We have increased the scholarship from $1,000 to $1,500 in 2007.

Apron Sale - Fundraising for Maryknoll SIsters
To help raise funds for the Maryknoll Sisters, Helen Leung and Margaret Lau are generously contributing their time and talent to make aprons for sale. It costs $25 each and the proceeds will be donated to the Sisters. You can choose from five different fabrics. If you would like one, please place your order directly with Helen or Margaret or through your membership officer. See sample fabric.

Fundraising for the Maryknoll Sisters
To show our appreciation for the Maryknoll Sisters, we will always try to raise funds for them during our events, for example, through bake sale, 50/50 draws, silent auction. Some of our talented members volunteered their time to make items, e.g. reusable environmental bags, dish cloths, scarves, to raise funds as well.

Earlier this year, we learnt that the original and one and only furnace had broken down for the Sisters. From the funds we had raised from our events, we sent the Sisters US$3,000 in March 2009 towards a new furnace.

The Motherhouse is undergoing a major renovations project. Their estimated funding need is US$12 million. Find out more - Maryknoll Sisters Renovation Project.
